

In this course, students will develop their academic listening and note-taking skills through study of English lectures of varying lengths. Emphasis will be placed on listening and understanding short lectures delivered in English, understanding the structure of different lecture types (chronology, process, and definition/classification), taking structured notes for a lecture, asking and answering simple questions about the contents of a lecture, and writing a paragraph-long lecture summaries. Activities will include listening to lectures in class, taking structured notes, discussion, asking and answering questions, and writing summaries. In addition, related reading and vocabulary may be assigned before each lecture.
